The Trip to Aguapé Lodge is the southern Pantanal offers an immersive experience in one of Brazil´s most biodiverse regions. The excursions are often shared with small groups and English speaking guide. Some animals and birds can be easily spotted, like: Caimans, capybaras, monkeys, deers, giant anteater, hyacinth macaw, blue and yellow macaws, toucans, armadillos, parakeets, creab eating fox and with some luck a ocelot.
Pick up at the airport or bus station or hotel in Campo Grande and private transfer with local driver (car or minivan) to the Aguapé Lodge located in the Pantanal of Aquidauana. The trip from Campo Grande to the lodge takes 03 up to 04 hours (depend of the conditions of the dirt road), will be 150km of paved road and almost 50km of dirt road where you already have chances of spot some wildlife.
Check-in and schedule the activities for the next days (this activity itinerary day by day is only an example how can be the activities distribution during your stay in the Pantanal).
Usually the guests like relax a little bit in this first afternoon and walk around the Pousada to have your first contact with the birds and animals that live around.
The best periods to do the activities is very early in the morning and late in the afternoon, when the temperature is not so hi and is the time the animals and birds are more active.
After dinner, you can go for a nocturnal tour by jeep truck. During the tour, the guide use a strong flashlight to search for the night animals like anteaters, foxes, capybaras and caimans. You also will hear the sounds of frogs and insects at night and see the beautiful sky of the Pantanal.

The best time to do the Pantanal tours is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, these are the moments the wildlife are active.
After breakfast, you go for a Nature Walking – it tour is done in dense bush, open fields and gallery forest. It’s in this tour that you will have a better contact with the flora and fauna of the region learning about their function and importance in Pantanal ecosystem. It is a good opportunity to see the animals more closely. There are different routes that you can go on that and it takes between 1h30 to 04h00 hours.
After lunch, you have time to relex in a hammock or around the pool. You also can enjoy the free time to talk with your local guide and make a list of the wildfife you spot in the morning.
In the afternoon, you go for a Horseback Ride – All tours are conducted by the unique landscapes, but the horse is one of the main attractions of the Aguapé Lodge, it is the best way to explore the swamp. Riding through its open fields, marshes, capões, ridges, streams and bays, you encounter a rich variety of lush flora and fauna, typical of a region well preserved. The horses are quiet, which means that even those who have never ridden a horse can do this ride. There are several tracks with shorter or longer routes, which can be made in both the floods and dry seasons, always with experienced local guides.

Around the breakfast area you will see several species of birds like toucan, parekeet and others, so don´t forget to bring your photograph camera. After breakfast, you go for a motor Boat Trip – This is the best way to know the Aquidauana River and the beauty and exuberance of its gallery forest. It is the natural habitat of birds, mammals and reptiles that lie out on river banks or simply hear the songs of the birds. This tour takes about 02 hours, and it is necessary to use a life jacket (provided by the lodge). All the boats are legalized and have insurance.
Berofe you join the afternoon tour, will be served a snack, cake and natural juice. In the afternoon, you go for a Jeep Photo Safari – The photo safari is done in a 4×4 open vehicle. This tour gives the opportunity to cover more territory of the farm going through different landscapes like cerrado (patches of stunted vegetation), open grasslands, “vazantes” (low-lying areas that are often seasonally flooded), “brejos” (swamps) and bays which are permanently flooded areas. It is also a perfect tour to see and observe the wild life of the Pantanal.

After breakfast, you will go for a Piranha Fishing – The piranha fishing is made in a bay of Aquidauana River, that it is located near the lodge. The piranha is mainly used to prepare a typical dish of the region, piranha soup. It is also good way to see the caimans who watch the fishers to steal their piranhas.
After lunch, transfer by private car with local driver to Campo Grande or Bonito. We can drop you off at the airport or in your hotel if you spend the night in Campo Grande. (B,L)
