The Pantanal is approximately 200 square kilometres and is one of the most preserved and interactive ecosystems on the planet. Situated in the centre of Brazil, the Pantanal ends at the Paraguay River and its tributaries, forming the largest floodplain in the world. The Pantanal along the Negro River is the finest in the region. Here you find most of the wetland landscape units: bays, salt water lakes, streams, flooded plain, riparian vegetation and even the Negro River that runs in the plain between two large swamps, making it a place inaccessible to other users from outside the region.
The Negro River´s Pantanal is one of the most superb sites in the world to watch wildlife, not only because of the extraordinary pulsating life of its fauna, but also because the vegetation is widely open for observation. It is an ecosystem in constant transformation. Home of a complex variety of animals and vegetable communities, its future depends on the balance between its various life forms.
Barra Mansa Ranch is located in a privileged place in the Pantanal, by the Negro River, in one of the finest and well preserved parts of this sanctuary, for this reason the site has frequently used for TV footage and photographic projects in the Pantanal.
Barra Mansa Hotel is a traditional lodge in the Pantanal that’s have been operating the Ecotourism since 1996. There you are host by the land owner family who has been living in the Pantanal since end of the nineteenth century. The farm is located in a very privileged part of the Pantanal, along the banks of the Negro River in the rural area of Aquidauana within the state of Mato Grosso do Sul – Brazil.
The Lodge has maximum capacity of 17 people at one time and have availible: Outdoor hammocks place, Restaurant, Laundry service, Bar, Satellite TV, Telephone service, Wi-Fi, Shop with local crafts, Fishing equipment rental, Library, Orchard and Private landing strip.
The rooms are simple and comfortable, featuring the typical Pantanal hosting. The exuberance of the decoration is due to the beautiful landscapes that brighten the rooms through the window. The accommodations are screened, have hot shower, air conditioning and fan. There are various room sizes ranging from double sized to quadruple sized. There is also a private house equipped with a fridge and living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom, ideal for families or friends traveling together.
Gastronomy is one of the highlights at Barra Mansa Hotel, serving authentic Pantanal dishes cooked by a wooden stove, using local natural ingredients. Roasted free ranged local wild pigs, caribéu made with corned beef and barbequed pacu fish are examples of the cuisine served at Barra Mansa Pantanal Hotel. Vegetarians and natural kitchen fans can also find delicious dishes prepared with nutritional care.
Barra Mansa Lodge offer several nature tours where you will be able to spot a great variety of Pantanal´s wildlife. The main access to Barra Mansa is by plane from Campo Grande, Aquidauana and Bonito which are all in Mato Grosso do Sul state.
The charter flights provide a panoramic view of the Pantanal and are available to fly all year round.
During the dry season (May to November) there are better road conditions so it is also possible to get to Barra Mansa by 4×4 vehicles.
