The climate in the summer is humid and the winter is dry (typical of tropical savannahs). From August to October, rains little and the waters are still more crystalline. Rains are more frequent from November to March (and the waterfalls are well full).

The Bonito region has many influences from Paraguay and Brazilian states as Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul; this explain why the gastronomy here is so diverse and full of flavours, some of the most sought are: Carne de sol / Sun Meat, Arroz carreteiro / Typical Rice, Sopa paraguaya / Paraguayan corn cake, Chipa paraguaya / Paraguayan cheese bread, Churrasco / Barbecue, Guavira (Typical fruit), Tereré (typical drink), Carne de caiman/Alligator meat (not typical but differenced dish). Most of the restaurants have a menu with dishes with fresh water fish, beef, rice, beans and salad, portions to share or self-service options. You also can find pizza and fast food restaurants, bars and small markets.

Currently in the region of Bonito, Jardim and Bodoquena there are around 40 tourist attractions / eco tours; the majority of them being private owners, only the Gruta do Lago Azul (blue lake cave) and the Balneário Municipal (municipal river beach) are administered by the Bonito City Hall.
