The Brazilian Pantanal is the largest wetland in the world, being the best place in the world to observe jaguars in nature and several other species of wildlife. There are approximately 240,000 square kilometers that make up this unique ecosystem. Comparatively, the Pantanal is approximately the size of France and is present in 03 countries (Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia), most of it is in Brazil, almost two thirds.
Dona Onça Jaguar Lodge is located in Porto Jofre, in the municipality of Poconé in the state of Mato Grosso, one of the best places in the world for observing jaguars and sport fishing.
The Lodge is relatively new; it is a family business where the owners run the business with their children. The structure is small and is located approximately 100 meters from the banks of the São Lourenço River, from where boats depart for ecological tours and sport fishing.
There are only five apartments in total; all rooms equipped with box spring beds, air conditioning and private bathrooms with hot showers. The apartment’s configuration can be as singles, doubles (single or double beds), triples and quadruples.
As there are no restaurants in the Pantanal, meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are taken at the lodge itself, which has an air-conditioned restaurant exclusively for guests.
When visiting the region of Porto Jofre, the main objective is certainly to see the jaguars in their natural habitat and for this; we organize motor boat trips on the region’s rivers. The boats have a small cover, cushioned chairs, 4-stroke engines (less polluting and quieter) and very experienced drivers in the region.
Certainly, Jaguar Tours are the main activity in Porto Jofre. Since 2006, many tourists from all over the world have been visiting the Pantanal North to see jaguars living in their natural habitat.
As well as ecological tours, from the Dona Onça Lodge, it is possible to practice sport fishing in the Três Irmãos River, in the Cuiabá River and in the Piquiri River. Undoubtedly, Porto Jofre is one of the best places in Brazil to do sport fishing, in addition to watching wild animals.
